Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership Scheme

The project vision is to “create a vibrant, natural and cultural diverse landscape within the Faughan Valley that the whole community understands, and is engaged with, making it a sustainable landscape for living”. The Project involves a working partnership between RAPID, Derry City & Strabane District Council and The Woodland Trust

Main aims:

  • Integrate conservation and restoration of priority habitats and associated priority species and examples of built heritage features, ancient monuments and landscape features.
  • Ensure effective communication and involvement with land owners/managers, local communities and other user groups, in decision making and project delivery.
  • Encourage greater understanding and enjoyment of, and involvement in, the area’s natural, cultural and built heritage amongst local communities, visitors and currently under-represented groups
  • Work in partnership with similar projects throughout the area and aid the development of continuous habitat links and tourist routes across the region by providing a framework for managing the Faughan Valley at the landscape scale.

The project is based around the following specific themes:

  1. Conserving our natural, cultural and built heritage
  2. Working with communities
  3. Access and interpretation development programme
  4. Training and skills.
