RAPID Ltd is a partner in the INTERREG Northern Periphery & Arctic C.L.I.M.A.T.E. project. This project brings various stakeholders together to deliver programmes across four different regions; Northern Ireland, Sweden, Rep. of Ireland and the Faroe Islands, in addition Associate Partners from Finland, Scotland, Norway and Iceland are involved to ensure effective project reach both during and after the programme duration. The programme aims to tackle climate change on local and regional levels through using models of best practice to develop climate adaptation plans for local authorities.
The main project objective is to “Promote and improve climate change awareness in European peripheral rural communities through a knowledge based approach and community led sustainable resource planning that will mitigate against future climate impact and incorporating transnational collaboration through a best practice model which will improve preparedness for sustainable environmental management in future years”.
The project partners have therefore come together to analyse and evaluate climate change issues and to use best practice models to develop a method for development of a Climate Adaptation Plan and Preparedness Scale matrix for local authorities. This project provides an opportunity for significant delivery of change on a transnational basis, the project will explore possibilities and practical solutions across the regions. This includes opportunities to explore what works in one region and how this can be transferred – particularly from a policy and implementation point of view.
