Health and Well being

  • The Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measures (NIMDM) 2017 provide information on an overall measure of multiple deprivation for small areas. Super Output Areas (SOAs) are ordered from most deprived to least deprived on each type of deprivation and then assigned a rank. The most deprived SOA is ranked 1, and as there are 890 SOAs, the least deprived has a rank of 890. A review of the Multiple Deprivation data for the SOAs within which the Council’s rural population reside confirms the following:

    • Sperrin District Electoral Area (DEA) comprising four SOAs (Artigarvan, Banagher (Park), Dunamanagh (Donemana) and Plumbridge (Glenelly Valley)) falls within the top 30.1% most deprived

    • Derg District Electoral Area (DEA) comprising five SOAs (Castlederg, Finn, Glenderg, Newtownstewart and Sion Mills) falls within the top 17.6% most deprived

    • Faughan District Electoral Area (DEA) comprising seven SOAs (Claudy 1, Claudy 2, Eglinton 1, Eglinton 2, Enagh, Newbuildings and Slievekirk) falls within the top 44.2% most deprived

    • Health: 4 rural wards in the council area are within the top 50% most deprived in Northern Ireland.
